Welcome to Alna Ridesenter!

The former “Trosterudstallen” and Østmarka Rytterklubb together make Alna Ridesenter. Østmarka Rytterklubb is responsible for many of the activities offered here, so we encourage our students to join the club.
Alna Ridesenter; a place to visit, a place to learn.
We look forward to your visit!
We kindly ask that you park your car at the parking lot in Alnaparkveien, as there is only limited room outside the stable. We appreciate your cooperation.

Horse-related activities for seniors
«Horse-related activities for seniors» - is a project aimed at seniors living in nursing homes. Every Wednesday we welcome a group of seniors who wish to spend some time in the stable.
If the weather permits, we ride outside in a carriage, otherwise we spend time in the arena trying out riding or riding the carriage. The most important thing is to enjoy time spent with the horses and each other. Therefore we spend most of our time in the stable. Lastly we enjoy a cup of coffee and talk about the events of the day together.

Safety is paramount in all interaction with horses. We would like you to;
- Always wear a helmet
- Wear shoes with bootleg and heels(no laces)
- Wear fitted clothes
- Follow directions on how to lead the horse into the hall (Walk counter-clockwise and line up the horse in the middle. Facing the stables. At least 3 metres distance between the horses.) If you need help, please ask!
- The girth is loose until the horse is in the riding hall, just tight enough to keep the saddle on. If you need help, please ask!
- Use a stool when mounting the horse.
Thank you for appreciating the importance of safety, and for cooperating with us!
INSURANCE: all interaction and riding is your own responsibility, we recommend that you make sure you have an insurance that covers this. Our insurance covers any mistakes our employees make, or negligence.
Trail rides
3 hour trail ride in Østmarka for experienced riders. If the conditions permit it we will canter.
The 3 hour trail ride is for experienced riders who control the horse in a canter – this means that the rider can ride volts, independently in the hall, on any schoolmaster. The horses tend to become more eager outside, so the rider must be comfortable with this.
The rider must saddle up him/herself and is therefore required to meet 30 minutes before the trail-ride begins.
If the staff or trail-guide is uncertain about your skills, you might be denied to join the ride. You may be invited to take a “trial-ride” in the nearby park to gauge your skills.
We appreciate that you understand the importance of safety and is willing to cooperate!
Reservations for classes and trail-rides must be made on the working day preceding the week-end to this e-mail; lene@alnaridesenter.no.
Check our calendar to find out when we offer the trail-rides.
Birthday parties for children
Birthday parties with horseback riding are popular!
We have a “riding class” first. We use calm and gentle horses and ponies. The children will share a horse and take turns riding, or we can provide one horse per child if the party is small (max. 10 horses).
We eat after the activity. The stable has decorated and set the tables in advance. We serve hot dogs, lemonade and ice cream. You are welcome to bring your own cakes or snacks.
Price per horse per hour: NOK 300,-
Price for catering per child: NOK 115,-
We can offer horsedrawn carriage tour instead of riding lessons. If you live in Groruddalen, we can visit you at home. Please ask for a price quote!
Horsedrawn carriage rental
We have many skilled coachmen at the stable, including Lene Kragh and Wenche Johannesen(World Championship-level). We educate coachmen on our premises, enter competitions and drive carriages on your request.
We have carriages that can accommodate 4 – 10 passengers. We have carriages for weddings and for driving children. If you would like to rent a carriage, please contact us.
We offer carriage with two horses and charabang for weddings, we decorate the carriage as by your request, for instance “Pakistani” or “Norwegian”.
Our horses have been involved in many movie recordings. The horses have also participated in spectacular events. Do you have specific requests? Please contact us, we will very likely be able to help. We are the only stable nationwide to have transported 250 guests at once; thanks to our large group of contacts and our well-behaved horses.

We have many physiotherapy-sessions!
You need a requisition from your doctor to be eligible for this therapy. You will have to pay for the use of the horse – NOK 180,- per session, the physiotherapy is covered by Helfo.
Schedule for therapy
- Tuesday at 10.00, 10.45, 12.30 and 13.15.
- Wednesday at 14.30 and 15.15.
- Thursday at 13.45, 14.30 and 15.15.
Mona knows if there is any vacancies. Please contact her if you would like to start equine physiotherapy (mona@alnaridesenter.no).
We can accommodate other groups as well, for instance handicap-riding without a physiotherapist. Please contact Mona or Lene (lene@alnaridesenter.no, or phone no 918 65 337).
Terminological confusion
“Equine physiotherapy” is riding for the physically impaired intended to improve their mobility. This class is supervised by a physiotherapist. The rider pays “rent” for the horse, the therapy is covered by Helfo.
“handicap-riding” is riding for the physically impaired who wishes to use riding as exercise and recreation. This is not supervised by a physiotherapist. This riding is not covered by Helfo, but if the group is big enough, and the participants do not require assistance from the stable beyond the instructor, the price is the same as for a regular riding-class. If additional assistance is required, we will agree on a price individually.
The project “mental health and horses” unfortunately is closed, as is the project “horse for everyone” – both projects were very positive for people struggling with mental health issues. The latter received funding from Norges Rytterforbund. We apply for funding to continue our work focusing on mental health in the stable.
We offer classes on non-verbal communication on request. This class teaches how we affect our surroundings by our posture. Horses are our teachers. They are not fooled by words, our demeanor and posture show whether you are a natural leader or not.
